Final Stats

BOISE, Idaho – The Boise State women’s tennis team defeated Utah State 4-3 on Saturday afternoon at the Appleton Tennis Complex to finish out the 2018 regular season.

The win solidifies the Broncos (13-7, 5-0 Mountain West) as the undefeated Mountain West Mountain Division Champions for the first time in program history. It also marks the first time the Broncos have gone undefeated in conference play since the 2010 season when they were a part of the WAC.

“I mean what a story,” exclaimed head coach Beck Roghaar. “Utah State is playing really well right now. We’ve had some battles with them so coming out today and getting the win was incredible. It was back and forth all day, we started off getting the doubles point. From there we go down 2-1, then we tie it back up 2-2 and then it was just a barn burner from there all the way to the end. It couldn’t have been a better finish today for Nancy [Menjivar] to be the deciding match at court six on her Senior Day. I’m just really proud of her and the whole team for how they’ve fought through all season. “

The Broncos got off to an impressive start, winning the doubles point at court two with Wilhelmina Palmer/Lilian Poling, 6-3, and on court three with Vanessa Timm/Nancy Menjivar, 6-1. This marked the 15th time this season the Broncos have won the doubles point.

From there it was a back-and-forth contest, and it was decided by the final set on the final court. The fourth point came down to the third set of the last match on court six.  Bronco senior Nancy Menjivar was able to pull out a clutch victory on her Senior Day, defeating Utah State’s Sophia Haleas 6-4, 4-6, 6-3.

On her play today, Menjivar said, “To be able to get this win on senior day was amazing. The first set was tight and then I started playing more defensively in the second set. I stepped back and that was my mistake. I tried to be more offensive in the third set and it worked.”

Other winners in singles for the Broncos included Hanna Kantenwein on court three and Anja Dokic on court two.

The Broncos now await their seeding for the Mountain West Division Championships. The Championships will be hosted in Boise at the Appleton Tennis Center and at Julia Davis Park starting on Thursday, April 26th.
