Final Stats

BOISE, Idaho – The Boise State women’s tennis team defeated New Mexico 4-2 on Friday evening at Appleton Tennis Center.

“It was amazing. This was an incredible college match on both sides tonight. Hats off to New Mexico, they have won 12 of their last 13 conference matches coming into tonight, and we did a phenomenal job from top to bottom tonight. Really the biggest difference was how we handled momentum. We won four of six first sets in singles, but New Mexico battled back and the maturity we showed in hanging in as they were coming back was big for us. If we don’t do that, we don’t win this match.”

The Broncos (12-7) were impressive in the win over New Mexico (9-8), first winning the doubles point, and then battling through adversity in singles to earn the win.

The win keeps the Broncos undefeated in Mountain West play this season at 4-0, and is the first win over New Mexico in five seasons.

The Broncos continued this season’s trend of being outstanding in doubles play, winning at court one with Anja Dokic/Wiktoria Nosek 6-4 and on court three with Vanessa Timm/Nancy Menjivar, 6-4 to take the doubles point.

In singles play the real battle began, as the Lobos tied the match up 1-1 with a win at No. 3 singles.

Sophomore Anja Dokic put the Broncos up again 2-1 with a 6-4, 7-5 victory over New Mexico’s Ye Lin Chen at No. 2 singles.

However, the Lobos fought right back with a three-set win at No. 4 to tie the game up, 2-2.

The biggest momentum shift of the match took place in No. 5 singles, as freshman Vanessa Timm fought back from match point to defeat Lauren Rich in three, 3-6, 6-2, 7-5. Timm’s win put the Broncos up, 3-2.

Freshman Wilhelmina Palmer clinched the victory at No. 1 singles, fighting back from dropping the second set in a tiebreak to defeat Diana Wong, 6-3, 6-7 (4-7), 6-3 to each the big win for the Broncos.

The Broncos will finish off the regular season on Saturday, April 21 as they host Utah State on Senior Day at 12 p.m. MT.
