Boise State Rolls Past Colorado State 6-1

USAFA, Colo. - The Boise State women's tennis team rolled past Colorado State 6-1 Friday afternoon in a Mountain West match played at the U.S. Air Force Academy. Boise State swept all three doubles matches and claimed victories in five of six singles matches to dominate the Rams. The win improved the Broncos to 11-7 overall and 2-2 in league play.
"We played a great team match today where everyone came out focused and ready to take care of business on their individual courts," said head coach Beck Roghaar. "We started well in doubles today and carried that confidence into the singles. Now we've got our sights set on preparing for another tough match tomorrow against Wyoming."
Boise State opened the competition by taking the team doubles point sweeping all three matches. Manuela and Marlena Pietzuch started the ball rolling with their commanding 8-2 win at the No. 1 position. Megan LaLone and Bobbi Oshiro followed shortly afterward with a solid 8-1 victory on court three to handed the team point to the Broncos. Sandy Vo and Morgan Basil finished off the doubles sweep with a hard fought 8-6 win on court two to improve their team-best mark to 13-3 this the spring.
The Broncos switched things up a little from previous matches as they changed their singles lineup slightly on the way to winning five of six matches. Teal Vosburgh who normally starts on court three sat out the match resulting in Basil, LaLone and Watson all moving up one position, 3-5 respectively, with Manuela Pietzuch getting the nod at No. 6 singles.
Up one, Boise State extended its lead when LaLone defeated Kendall Heitzner 6-3, 6-3 at No. 4 singles. The freshman is now 11-6 in duals this spring.
The Bronco advantage went up to 3-0 following Vo's 6-1, 7-5 victory over CSU's Natalie Heffron on court two. Vo is now 10-5 this spring and 15-7 overall.
The match clinching victory came at No. 3 singles where Morgan Basil rallied from one set down to defeat the Rams' Kaley Schultz 1-6, 6-3, 6-2 to make the team score 4-0 in favor of Boise State. Basil also improved her team-best singles records to 14-3 this spring and 21-7 on the year.
Colorado State cut the Bronco advantage to three when Abby Stevens downed Boise State's Marlena Pietzuch in a tightly contested affair 7-6 (6), 7-5 on court one.
Boise State wrapped up the competition recording straight set victories on courts five and six. Watson was the first to finish with a 6-4, 6-2 win at No. 5 singles, followed by Manuela Pietzuch's 6-2, 6-4 victory on court six.
Boise State will face Wyoming at 12 p.m. (Mountain) Saturday afternoon at the Air Force Academy.
