BOISE, Idaho - Boise State jumped out to an early lead and cruised to a 5-2 victory against Air Force Sunday, at the Appleton Tennis Center. The Broncos (9-9) won the doubles point and picked up the first three singles matches before the Falcons (13-10) got on the board.

“Things started off really well for us today,” said head coach Beck Roghaar. “Statistically Air Force is a really strong doubles team and we’ve put ourselves in a hole early against them in years past by dropping that point. We challenged our team to come out and try to take the momentum early on. We did a great job of imposing our system on the match.”

Teal Vosburgh and Milena Toseva teamed up for a 6-1 win at the No. 3 doubles position before both going on to claim a singles victory. Vosburgh made sure the momentum from doubles carried over to singles with an emphatic 6-1, 6-1 win on court two.

Toseva’s singles match went differently as she battled back from a set down to force a third. After losing the first set 6-4, the junior came back with a 6-3 win to get to the decisive set. There Toseva took control and claimed a 6-2 win for the match.

Megan LaLone made quick work of Elizabeth Bernickel on court three. LaLone rattled off a 6-2, 6-1 win as the second Bronco off. The senior was awarded the Bronco Bandana for the match.

“Megan has been putting in the work to get better and she’s seeing the results now,” Roghaar said. “She played the way she needed to on Friday and it didn’t happen for her, but she stuck to her guns today and got the job done.”

Moments later, Nancy Menjivar clinched the match with a straight-sets win at No. 6. Menjivar rallied to win the first set 7-5 before wrapping up the victory with a 6-2 win in the second set.

“We knew they would fight back and try to get up off the ground after losing the doubles point.,” said Roghaar. “We did a really good job of maintaining our composure and sticking to the game plan. This is the third match in a row we’ve really show up to compete. We’re gaining some momentum and I’m thrilled that’s happening at this point of the season.

Bobbi Oshiro and Arianna Paules Aldrey also won in doubles, clinching the team point with a 6-2 win on court two. Paules Aldrey was forced to retire during the third set of her singles match. Oshiro dropped her singles match at the No. 1 position in a grueling three-set contest against Chloe Forlini.

Boise State will hit the road next week for matches at Wyoming (April 15) and Colorado State (April 17), before returning home for the regular-season finale and Senior Day April 23, against Utah State.
