BOISE, Idaho - Anissa Bryant-Swift and Sandy Vo led Boise State’s rally from one down to defeat the New Mexico Lobos 4-3 in a Mountain West Conference women’s tennis match at the Boas Tennis Center in Boise. After New Mexico took a 3-2 lead in the match, Bryant-Swift and Vo recorded the final two singles victories of the day to lift the Broncos past the Lobos. The win improved Boise State to 9-8 over and 2-2 in conference play, while New Mexico fell to 11-7 on the year and 0-1 in league.

“What an amazing match! I couldn’t be more proud of how hard our team battled today. Our seniors really stepped up and led the charge today picking up three singles wins against a tough New Mexico team,” said head coach Beck Roghaar. “With a quick turnaround from our road trip, I was ecstatic to see that level of resiliency and resolve out there on the court today. I think it says a lot about our group and what they’re made of. To see Anissa (Bryant-Swift) come back and win her match after being down 4-0 in the third was incredible and Sandy’s composure in the final moments of the match to put away a really tough competitor was simply awesome.”

The day started with the Broncos claiming the doubles team point with victories on courts two and three. Bryant-Swift and Teal Vosburgh recorded the first win of the day 8-4 over UNM’s Meredith Hopson and Natasha Smith. The Lobos drew even when Misa Bezdickova and Lizette Blankers, ranked seventh in the region, handed Boise State’s Sandy Vo and Megan LaLone their first loss of the season by a 8-3 score.

The Blue and Orange gained the needed victory on court three where Morgan Basil and Sammie Watson collected a tiebreaker victory 8-7 (3) over New Mexico’s Dominique Dulski and Emily Olivier.

In a match that was tight and a battle from the beginning, it was Boise State’s experience that came through for the home team as all three seniors recorded singles victories to lead the Broncos to the victory. After New Mexico had drawn even once again with a straight-set win on court six where Rachana Bhat downed the Broncos’ Watson 6-0, 7-5, the Broncos seniors took over.

It started on court five where Morgan Basil won in straight-sets to give the Broncos back their one-point advantage up 2-1. After winning the first set 6-2, Basil was forced to rally from 3-1 down in the second set to win the match 6-2, 6-4. The senior improved to 9-7 in duals this spring and 15-10 overall in singles.

The Lobos then rallied recording victories on court four where Smith defeated LaLone in three sets 1-6, 6-4, 6-3 and court two where Blankers downed Vosburgh 7-5, 7-6 (4).

Down 3-2 in the team score, Boise State was faced with winning the final two singles matches of the day to record the victory. It started at No. 3 singles where Bryant-Swift rallied from one set down to force a third. The senior from Bellevue, Wash., was forced to rally a second time when she found herself down 4-0 in the third set. Bryant-Swift dug her heals in and battled back winning six straight games to claim the victory 4-6, 6-2, 6-4. With the win Bryant-Swift improved to 16-11 on the year in singles.

That setup Vo’s match clinching win on court one. The senior was taking on UNM’s Misa Bezdickova who was tied in the regional rankings with Vo for 18th. The match started off with the Lobo taking set one 6-4. However, Vo rallied winning the second set 6-3, she then rallied from 3-2 down in the third by winning four straight games to claim the win 4-6, 6-3, 6-3. The win moved Vo to 10-5 in duals this spring playing on court one and 15-8 on the year.

Boise State will return to action at 10 a.m. on Sunday when they host their final MW home match of the year against the Air Force Falcons at the Appleton Tennis Center, weather permitting.
