LAS VEGAS - Boise State women's tennis cruised to a 6-1 win Friday, against Southern Utah in Las Vegas. The Broncos (10-4) won the doubles point before adding the first five singles matches en route to their third straight victory.

"Southern Utah was a really competitive team and fought us for everything," said head coach Beck Roghaar. "It was a good step forward for us to get through the match the way we did and we made some improvements from our first outdoor match earlier in the week."

The Broncos swept all three doubles matches against the Thunderbirds, including 6-1 wins on courts one and two to clinch the point. Kirsty Venter carried the momentum into singles play. Venter, who did not play a doubles match, was first off in singles with a 6-2, 6-3 win on court six.

Boise State will open Mountain West play Saturday, at UNLV in its lone cross-divisional matchup of the year.

"Now we close the book on our nonconference season and look forward to taking on UNLV tomorrow," Roghaar said. "We'll aim to keep improving and taking the day-by-day jumps that we've seen all year. Great things are ahead of us this season."

The growth is fueled by a youthful team and Friday marked the second time in as many matches a freshman earned the Bronco Bandanna. Anja Dokic rolled to a 6-1, 6-4 singles win at the No. 2 position after teaming with fellow freshman Lilian Poling for a 6-1 win at the top doubles spot.

"Anja competed very, very well today," said Roghaar. "She played some high-level tennis. Her bringing that to the table is a sign of not only the kind of potential she has individually, but what our future looks like as a team."
