Boise State Comes Up Short at Cal State Northridge, 4-3

NORTHRIDGE, Calif. - Sandy Vo and Sammie Watson recorded singles victories on Sunday, but Boise State came up short 4-3 at Cal State Northridge in a women’s tennis match on the road. Vo and Watson both won in straight sets to lead Boise State which also won the doubles point. The loss moves the Broncos to 8-7 overall with a trip to Mountain West member San Diego State on the slate for Tuesday.

Megan LaLone and Sandy Vo gave Boise State the early momentum when they teamed up to record the first doubles victory of the day. The duo downed CSUN’s Vivian Lin and Criss Rodriguez 8-2 at the ones. They improved to 3-0 as a doubles team this spring with the win.

The Matadors drew even following an 8-3 win on court two. However, Morgan Basil and Watson clinched the team doubles point for the Broncos when they put away CSUN’s duo of Lorraine Cheung and Scout Shutter 8-4 on court four. The tandem of Basil and Watson is now 4-0 in duals this spring.

Sandy Vo extended the Boise State team advantage to 2-0 following her quick 6-0, 6-1 win at No. 1 singles over Lin. The senior from Melbourne, Australia, is now 9-4 in duals this spring and 14-7 overall. The Broncos went up 3-0 when Watson downed Shutter in straight sets as well 6-0, 6-4. The win moves Watson to 4-0 in duals and 9-4 on the year in singles.

Up three, Boise State could not managed to get that one elusive victory in the final four singles matches as the Matadors mounted a rally. Vosburgh came up short in a second set tiebreaker in her attempt to force a third set, falling 6-2, 7-6 (5) on court two. Basil suffered a similar fate on court four in dropping a tiebreaker in the second set to fall 6-4, 7-6 (3) as CSUN pulled to within one of the Broncos at 3-2.

Cal State Northridge’s Mickey Hsu tied the match score at 3-3 when she edged Boise State’s Bryant-Swift in three sets on court three 6-1, 1-6, 6-3. The decisive point came down to court five where CSUN’s Cheung downed LaLone 6-3, 6-4 to clinch the match for the Matadors.
