BOISE, Idaho - Boise State handled the UTEP Miners Saturday afternoon and earned a 5-2 victory at the Appleton Tennis Center. The Broncos never trailed in a match that was their third consecutive win in a row.

"Today's match was a great way for us to see the improvements we feel we've been continually making throughout this season," said head coach Beck Roghaar. "UTEP is a tough team, and we had to play some good tennis to come through with the win this afternoon. We are playing three matches in three days to replicate the amount of matches needed to win a conference championship, and day two is an important day in that journey."

The Broncos seized control of the match from the beginning of doubles play when Anissa Bryant-Swift and Teal Vosburgh earned a 8-4 victory over Marie LeBlond and Daphne Visscher. Boise State secured the doubles point once Morgan Basil and Sammie Watson edged Matilda Rose Tench and Gabi Vasquez 8-5 on court three. Sandy Vo and Megan LaLone were down 6-5 at No. 1 doubles when their match was stopped.

Boise State quickly made the lead 2-0 when Sammie Watson picked apart Matilda Rose Tench for a straight set 6-1, 6-1 victory on court six.

The Miners received some life when Daphne Visscher defeated Milena Toseva 2-6, 6-2, 6-0 at No. 5 singles to make the score 2-1.

The UTEP point was quickly answered by two consecutive Bronco wins that began with a 6-1, 6-4 Sandy Vo victory on court one over Rebeca Calvillo. Boise State won the match once Morgan Basil defeated Marie LeBlond 6-2, 6-4 at No. 3 singles.

With the match already decided, UTEP’s Davina Meza earned a point in in a hard fought match against Anissa Bryant-Swift by a score of 6-1, 3-6, 6-3 on court two. After dropping the first set, Megan LaLone surged back in her match on court four to down Gabi Vazquez 4-6, 6-3, 6-2 and give the Broncos the 5-2 victory over the Miners.

"As a team, we're really starting to see more and more all the subtle ways in which we can help ourselves win," commented Roghaar.  "We feel like we're gaining some great momentum heading through the second half of the season. Day three of matches will be tomorrow, so we're looking forward to the challenges that will present as well."

Boise State takes the court tomorrow at 2 p.m. to square off against the Lewis-Clark State Warriors at the Appleton Tennis Center.
