BOISE, Idaho - Boise State’s women’s tennis team rolled past Mountain West Conference rival Utah State 6-1 Friday afternoon at the Boas Indoor Tennis Center at Boise. Boise State opened the match by winning the doubles point, then recorded victories in the first five singles matches. Morgan Basil recorded the match clinching point with her straight-set win on court four. The victory improves the Broncos to 6-6 overall and 1-1 in conference action.

“Today was an all around solid team performance that we are really proud of. It was great to start off with some momentum winning the doubles point and the team did a really nice job of carrying that energy into singles even when it rained and the match was moved indoors,” said head coach Beck Roghaar. “As a team, we’re growing and feel our best still lies ahead of us this year, so that’s pretty exciting. We’re going to go to work preparing for another important match tomorrow against UTEP and hope to have another great crowd out to support us.”

The Broncos claimed the doubles point with wins on courts one and three. Megan LaLone and Sandy Vo teamed up to record a 8-3 victory at No. 1 doubles over USU’s Lexi Turley and Nini Guensler. Morgan Basil and Sammie Watson claimed the team point for Boise State when they downed Kallie Sperry and Ashley Stuhlmann 8-3 at the third position. Number two doubles was not completed once the team point was decided, but Boise State’s Teal Vosburgh and Anissa Bryant-Swift were up 6-5 when play stopped.

Boise State wasted little time in putting away the Aggies once singles started. Mliena Toseva got things rolling for the Blue and Orange with a quick 6-1, 6-0 win on court six. The freshman from Stuttgart, Germany improved to 7-5 overall since joining the team in January.

LaLone stretched the advantage for the Broncos to 3-0 when she easily dispatched Ashley Stuhlmann at No. 5 singles 6-3, 6-2. That setup Basil’s team clinching victory on court four where she defeated Turley 6-2, 6-3. LaLone improved to 9-2 in duals and 14-8 overall, while Basil moved to 6-5 in duals and 12-8 on the year.

Shortly after Basil’s clinching win, Vo followed with a 6-4, 6-2 win on court one to improve to 11-7 overall. Boise State’s scoring was wrapped up when Teal Vosburgh rallied from one set down to defeat Nini Guensler 3-6, 6-2, 10-7. The sophomore from Katy, Texas, is now 16-7 and 7-4 in duals this spring.
