BOISE, Idaho - Boise State women's tennis started the 2016 spring season with a 5-2 victory against Weber State Saturday, at the Boas Indoor Tennis Center. The Broncos (1-0) responded with five singles victories after dropping the doubles point.

"We responded well and answered a few questions about our maturity and grit after dropping the doubles point," said head coach Beck Roghaar. "Weber State came out swinging and did a good job of neutralizing a few things that usually work well for us."

Megan LaLone and Hannah Kantenwein teamed up for a 6-3 win at No. 3 doubles to get the match started, but the Wildcats rallied with at the top two spots. Weber State (0-1) earned 6-4 wins on each of the other courts. The Wildcats top squad clinched the doubles point against Boise State's Bobbi Oshiro and Arianna Paules Aldrey.

"We need to execute a bit better on a couple of things to get ourselves off to a better start going into singles, but I'm confident the team will respond well to those things this week," Roghaar said.

It did not take long for the Broncos to regain momentum in singles action. Boise State's German duo of Kantenwein and Milena Toseva put the home team on top to stay. Toseva rolled to a 6-1, 6-1 victory on court six moments before Kantenwein, a freshman, continued her impressive debut with a 6-1, 6-2 win at No. 3 singles.

Seniors Bobbi Oshiro and Megan LaLone added straight-set victories of their own on courts four and five, respectively, to clinch the match.

"It was great to see no panic in singles early in those matches and the ladies did a nice job of staying on the gas pedal once we got in control," said Roghaar. "It's nice to get that first match under our belts and get back into the swing of things with the season."

Paules Aldrey recovered from a first-set defeat to win on court two, 6-7, 6-2, 10-7. Teal Vosburgh suffered a loss at No. 1 singles, 2-6, 6-1, 13-11, against Agata Bachanek.

Boise State next takes the court Friday, at Denver. The match begins at 4 p.m. MT at the Denver Country Club.
