COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.-Boise State senior Amber Boucher was named the Mountain West Swimmer of the Week, for the week of Nov. 28-Dec. 4, the conference announced, Wednesday. Boucher broke the MW record to win the 100-yard freestyle (49.01) on the final day of the Missouri Invitational to help the Broncos finish second, behind only No. 15 Missouri.
The weekly award is Boucher's second from the MW and eighth of her career. She and teammate Stephanie North have each been named MW Swimmer of the Week twice this season.
Boucher led off the Broncos' winning 400-yard freestyle relay team. The relay finished in 3:19.77, making Boise State the third-fastest school in conference history and ranking the Broncos No. 16 in the country this season. The time also set a Missouri Invitational record.
Individually, Boucher reached the 'A' Final in all four events she swam, collecting a third-, fourth- and fifth-place finish, in addition to her victory in the 100 freestyle. The Bronco senior took third in the 50-yard freestyle in 22.80, an NCAA provisional qualifying time, ranking fourth in the MW and 38th in the country. Boucher placed fourth in the 100-yard butterfly, swimming a 54.22 in prelims for an NCAA 'B' cut and good for second in the confernce. She ranks third in the conference in the 200-yard freestyle (1:48.60) after a fifth-place showing at the Missouri Invitational.
Boucher helped the Broncos to second-place finishes in three relays and a third-place finish in another. All five relays earned NCAA 'B' cuts and top-30 rankings nationally. Boise State ranks first in the MW in the 200-yard medley relay and the 400- and 800-yard freestyle relays. The Broncos are second in the 400-yard medley and 200-yard freestyle relay events.
Boucher and the Broncos are back in action Jan. 4, at No. 25 UCLA.
