BOISE, Idaho- Boise State swimming and diving Head Coach Kristin Hill announced Wednesday, Monica Bottelberghe of Vancouver, Wash., signed a National Letter of Intent to join the Broncos. Bottelberghe, currently a senior at Columbia River High School, specializes in freestyle and butterfly events.

Bottelberghe is a four time All American at Columbia River in Vancouver, Wash. She is a two time 200 freestyle 3A state champion and the runner up in the 100 freestyle 3A state competition. Bottelberghe is the school record holder in the 50-, 100- 200-yard freestyle, as well as the 200-, 400-yard freestyle relay and the 200 medley relay. She earned Greater Saint Helens league swimmer of the year twice for her accomplishments, and was named MVP as a sophomore and junior.

As a member of the Portland Aquatic Club under the direction of Jody Braden, Bottelberghe is a three-time junior national team competitor, three-time recipient of the leadership award and three-time recipient of the coaches' award. Bottelberghe holds the 100-freestyle record in the Western Zones 15-16.

Bottelberghe received the T.O.D.A.Y. Foundation Scholarship in 2012 as the swimmer of the year.

As well as a four-year letterwinner in the pool, Bottelberghe is a two-time letterwinner in track and field. Her mother, Sheri, is in the University of North Dakota swimming hall of fame, and her father, Rolland, is in the University of North Dakota diving hall of fame. Bottelberghe will join her sister, Jessica on the Boise State swimming roster.

Bottelberghe received the Great Saint Helens Scholar Athlete award. She helps raise money for the Doernbecher Children's Hospital through the Mr. and Mrs. Columbia River Pageant and is involved with Link Crew at her high school.

"I chose Boise State University because I believe in Kristin Hill and her program," Bottelberghe said. "When I went on my visit, I already felt a part of the Bronco family."
