BOISE, Idaho-Boise State swimming and diving Head Coach Kristin Hill announced, Wednesday, Jenny Barcellona of Danville, Calif., signed a National Letter of Intent to join the Broncos. Barcellona, currently a senior at San Ramon Valley High School, specializes in backstroke, freestyle and individual medley events.

"Jenny has strengths in both freestyle and backstroke that will really build on this great group of returners and incoming freshmen," Hill said. "Jenny loves Boise State and we are thrilled to have someone with her energy and passion join us. It is also great to have our second recruit from Dan Cottam's program at Crow Canyon (current freshman Devin Madsen)."

Barcellona enters her senior year at San Ramon Valley looking to help coach Heather Johnston and the Wolves to a third-straight CIF-North Coast Section Championship. She is a three-time All-American in the 100-yard backstroke, finishing a career-best eighth at the 2012 NCS Championships. Barcellona's best individual finish came as a sophomore in the 50-yard freestyle, taking seventh. She earned All-America consideration in the 50 freestyle as a junior with a career-best time in a swim off to qualify for the consolation final.

In each of her first three seasons Barcellona has guided San Ramon Valley's 200-yard medley and 200-yard freestyle teams to top-eight finishes at the sectional meet. The medley relay team has clocked automatic All-America times each season, including a first-place finish in 2012. The freestyle relay team garnered its top finish in 2012 with a third-place showing and an automatic All-America time. It also earned All-America consideration in 2011 and 2010.

Barcellona is coached by Dan Cottam at Crow Canyon Sharks Swim Club, where she has qualified for senior and junior nationals. She was a finalist in both backstroke events at the 2012 Santa Clara Grand Prix. Current Boise State freshman Devin Madsen is also a backstroke and freestyle product of the Crow Canyon Sharks program.

"Boise State has everything I need to be successful in and out of the pool," Barcellona said. "The team is like a family and the coaches are amazing. I knew Boise State was the school for me the minute I stepped onto the campus."
