BOISE, Idaho-Boise State swimming and diving Head Coach Kristin Hill announced, Wednesday, Brittany Aoyama of Stockton, Calif., signed a National Letter of Intent to join the Broncos. Aoyama, currently a senior at Linden High School, specializes in butterfly and freestyle events.

"Brittany's coach contacted me last spring about her being a great fit for our program and as I got to know Brittany it was evident that she would enjoy our team and that her and I would work very well together," Hill said. "Along with being a great student, Brittany's strengths as a swimmer were exactly what we needed to continue to excel on the national level."

Aoyama is coached by Karen Ley at Linden, where she is a three-time team MVP and holds 10 school records. As a junior, she was the CIF Sac-Joaquin Section champion and an All-American in the 50-yard freestyle. She also competes for Tiger Aquatics under coaches Peter Richardson and Craig Norman. Aoyama is the club record holder in the 50-meter freestyle and 100-meter butterfly.

Aoyama is ranked 99th in the class of 2013 by CollegeSwimming.com among U.S. and international swimmers, making her the first top-100 recruit in program history. The organization ranks her No. 14 in California. She has served as the CSF Vice President and secretary. Aoyama also spends time with Relay for Life and preparing meals for families in need.

"When I went on my recruiting trip to Boise State I felt at home," Aoyama said. "I love the campus and the support Boise State receives from the community. Kristin (Hill) showed me that she truly cares about me as a person and an athlete. Kristin and Justin (Brosseau) are experienced coaches who can help me reach the next step in my swimming career and the undergraduate program will prepare me for PT school."
