BOISE, Idaho-Boise State women's swimming and diving Head Coach Kristin Hill announced, Tuesday, Devin Madsen of Walnut Creek, Calif., signed a National Letter of Intent to join the Broncos. Madsen, currently a senior at Las Lomas High School, swims backstroke and freestyle events.
"Devin fills several of our needs that we sought out, with strengths in backstroke and sprint free," Hill said. "She comes from a strong club team, and her coaches all agree that she is going to set many personal bests this season as she is coming off an outstanding summer of fast swimming. Devin is personable, a great student, and is a great fit for this team."
Madsen advanced to the finals at the 2011 CIF North Coast Section Championships in the 100-yard freestyle and 100-yard backstroke, while swimming the leadoff legs of two second-place relay teams. She reached the finals at the 2010 meet in the 100 backstroke as well.
An All-American as a sophomore and a junior at Las Lomas, Madsen also competes for the Crow Canyon Sharks Swimming Team, where she is coached by Dan Cottam, Josh Scott and Ethan Hall.
Madsen excels in the classroom as well. She was named a 2011 scholar All-American and is a three-time California Scholarship Federation honoree.
"I chose Boise State because I was really looking for a supportive team atmosphere and a great academic program," Madsen said. "The girls were so sweet and welcoming. Kristin (Hill) and (assistant coach) Justin (Brosseau) kept in contact with me and showed genuine concern for me as a person and an athlete. I know that they will be supportive to me throughout my time at Boise State. I'm so proud to be a Bronco."
