BOISE, Idaho- Boise State swimming and diving Head Coach Kristin Hill announced, Friday, Emily Campbell of Aberdeen, S.D., signed a National Letter of Intent to join the Broncos. Campbell, currently a senior at Aberdeen Central High School, specializes in the backstroke, breaststroke and individual medley.
"Emily's strengths have really become evident this last year," Hill said. "She's fast, but still has amazing potential. I see a true love of swimming in her."
Campbell is coached by Elyce Kastigar and Kileen Cleberg at Aberdeen Swim Club, where she has served as team captain the last two years. Campbell has won at least one state championship in eight of the past nine seasons, including four individual titles in 2010. She currently holds the South Dakota state records in the 100- and 200-yard breaststrokes and the 100-yard backstroke.
A U.S. Open qualifier, Campbell holds a USA top-16 time in the breaststroke. She has also competed in, and advanced to the finals of, zones, sectionals and junior nationals. She is a multiple-year zone champion in the 100 and 200 breast. Her personal-best time of 2:18.15 in the 200 breast would be a Boise State record.
Campbell was named an academic All-American as a sophomore and a junior. Outside of swimming, Campbell is involved in link crew.
There is no high school-sponsored swimming in South Dakota.
"I absolutely loved everything about the school, the campus and the team," Campbell said. "The swimmers all seem like family to me, and they are all very goal-oriented. I also felt a great bond with the coaches, they really seem to care about each and every girl on the team. It was just meant to be. I can say without a doubt that I am excited to be a part of the Boise State swim team!"
