Jennifer Cahill was named the Verizon Wireless Western Athletic Conference swimmer of the week on Tuesday. This is the first career honor for Cahill and the second for the Broncos this season, which ties a program-high set last year. Cahill is the fourth Bronco in program history be named WAC Athlete of the Week.
Cahill, a freshman from Wailuku, Hawaii (Baldwin HS), competed at the BYU and Utah quad meets last weekend where she set a new school record. On Friday, she took third in both the 1000- and 500-yard freestyles. Her altitude-adjusted time of 5:02.10 in the 500 free was a career-best and the top time in the WAC this season. On Saturday, she swam the same two events and won both of them. In the 1000, her altitude-adjusted time of 10:20.91 set a new school record and is the second fastest in the WAC this year.
Cahill and the Broncos will take on WAC-rival Northern Arizona on Friday at the West YMCA in Boise at 6:30 p.m.
