COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Boise State senior Stephanie North was named Mountain West Swimmer of the Week, for the week of Oct. 24-30, the conference announced Wednesday. It is North's second swimmer of the week honor of the season and sixth of her career.
North won two individual events and anchored three victorious relay teams at the Rice Fall Invitational, Oct. 28-29, in Houston. North won the 50- and 100-yard freestyle events, notching the fastest time in the Mountain West in the 100 this season.
The Broncos set season bests in all three freestyle relays, including the best 800-yard time in the conference (No. 4 in the country) finishing just behind Arkansas at the meet. It was also the seventh-fastest time in school history. Boise State finished the meet with a win in the 400-yard freestyle relay as North and her teammates set a Rice Aquatics Center Competition Pool record. She also guided the 200-yard freestyle and 200-yard medley relay teams to victories and another runner-up finish in the 400-yard medley relay.
North helped the Broncos finish second in the final team standings in a field that included SEC member Arkansas, 2011 Conference USA Champion Rice, Nebraska out of the Big Ten and Houston, which has been represented at the past 11 NCAA Championships.
Senior Amber Boucher earned the weekly award after the Broncos' win at the Boise State Invite (Oct. 14-15). A Bronco has taken home the award each of the three weeks Boise State has competed this seaosn.
North, Boucher and the Bronco swimmers will be back in action Nov. 19, at Seattle. The divers will travel to the Wildcat Diving Invitational, Nov. 18-20, in Tucson, Ariz.
