Junior Emily Irvin returns as the undisputed leader of the Broncos' breaststroke group. Irvin's school records from 2008-09 withstood the entire 2009-10 season, despite fierce attempts by she and Kelly Forrester to bring them down in both the 100 and 200. Now there is a new Bronco in the pool trying to lay claim to the top spots. Freshman Chelsea Miller comes from San Antonio, Texas, and brings a lot of speed and potential to the breaststroke. Forrester, a senior from Durban, South Africa, emerged last season after transferring from Oregon State and redshirting in 2008-09. Forrester scored at the WAC Championships in the 100 breaststroke and was the Broncos' top finisher, taking sixth. Seniors Tara Hahto and Erin Stotts round out a deep group that will give Boise State a new strength. Look for Hahto to shine in the 100 breast, and Stotts to stand out throughout the season in the 200 breast.
Coach Hill's Take: "Freshman Chelsea Miller is the fastest breastsroker we've ever signed. She swims both the 100 and 200 breaststroke, and she's someone that we're excited to get into our program. We feel like we do a really good job with our breaststrokers. To build on the times she is coming in at will be really exciting; she could really make a big impact in our conference. Right behind her will be Forrester. Kelly is a strong 50 and 100 breaststroker, and she really contributed to our relays last season. Emily Irvin is our top returner, with school records in the 100 and 200 breaststroke. Emily is really versatile, so in adding Chelsea, it also frees up Emily to compete in other events. We have a really strong crew in this event, which is important as it allows teammates to push each other in training. Erin Stotts is a senior, and she does better with a little more distance behind the race. Erin is consistently strong in season, particularly in dual meets when others might not race as well, and we can really rely on her to compete well and contribute throughout the entire season. Our other senior breaststroker, Tara Hahto, has a lot of reasons to be at her best this season, and I think she will really be a factor for us from start to finish."
