Oct. 3, 2013

BOISE, Idaho - Boise State women's swimming and diving begins its eighth season with a duel meet against Idaho. The Broncos and Vandals will compete Saturday, Oct. 5 at 11:30 at the Boise West YMCA.

The Broncos are 8-6 in season openers and have won the last five matchups against Idaho. Boise State beat in-state rival Idaho in last year's season opener, 210-90. The Broncos claimed wins in 12 of the 16 events, and sophomores Devin Madsen and Emri Moore garnered individual victories in the backstroke and freestyle, respectively.

The orange and blue return 19 letterwinners from last season. Senior Rachel Heaney will look to reclaim her victory in the 200-yard butterfly this year. Heaney set the fastest 200 butterfly mark for a season opener last season, with a 2:04.11. Her 1:57.39 in the conference championships last year set the Boise State record.

Boise State welcomes eight freshmen to the Bronco family: Brittany Aoyama, Felicity Cann, Whitney Jorgensen, Karli Kriewall, Jordan Marthens, Katelyn Martin, Mandie Siehs and Emily Tanasse. They will make their Bronco debut this weekend.

Eighth-year head coach Kristin Hill and the Broncos also add two new assistant coaches to the roster beginning this season. Assistant coach Kirk Ermels begins his tenure, coming to Boise State from UNC Asheville. John Lynch joins the staff as the diving coach, having previously coached for six years at the club level.
