Aug 23, 2013

BOISE, Idaho - Boise State released the 2013-14 swimming and diving schedule Friday. In its eighth season, the program boasts three conference championships. The 2013-14 season kicks off against in-state rival Idaho on Oct. 5 at the Boise West YMCA.

"Idaho is always a fun way to start off the season," said head coach Kristin Hill. "Their program began a few years before ours and they have a great coach there. It makes it fun to start the season with a rivalry."

The swimming and diving program boasts two WAC championships and one Mountain West championship in eight seasons. This season's schedule features six dual meets and four invitationals, all leading up to the conference championships Feb. 19-22. The 2014 Mountain West Championships will be held at the Palo Alto College Aquatic Center.

After opening the season against Idaho, the Broncos will head to Fresno State for the Fresno Invitational. The Invitational will renew an old rivalry where the Broncos will compete against former WAC-rival and new MW member San José State on Oct. 11-12.

Two weeks later, Boise State will travel to the University of Utah (Oct. 25) and BYU (Oct. 26). The Broncos hosted BYU last December and sealed a victory for the first time in series history over the Cougars.

Boise State will then face Wyoming in Laramie, Wyo., for the first time in the history of the program on Nov 16. The Broncos defeated the Mountain West foe Cowgirls last season in Boise in the first contest between the two schools.

The Broncos will head to the Hawkeye Invitational in Iowa City, Iowa for its fall meet, Dec. 6-8. This will be the first trip to Iowa City for the Broncos. In the past, the team has normally attended the Missouri Invitational for their fall meet.

At the turn of the calendar year, the Broncos will train for a week in San Diego. The holiday training will culminate with a meet at UC San Diego, where they will face San Diego State, UCSD and Grand Canyon.

The Broncos will then come back to Boise to host the University of Denver on Jan. 25. The University of Denver meet will also be senior night, to honor the five Bronco seniors.

"We have a lot of rivalries scheduled this year," said Hill. "This year is the first time we will have swam at Utah in awhile and it's a great regional rivalry. We are very excited to face the Cowgirls in Laramie this year. It's going to be a great matchup, especially with the high altitude change for us. Then going down to the University of Arizona is a great opportunity for us to compete at a higher level for NCAAs. Denver is also going to be a good matchup. Denver is a great regional rivalry."

The divers will go to Tucson, Ariz., to compete in the Wildcat Invitational Nov. 22-24. The University of Arizona will also host the swim meet on Nov. 23. The divers will later compete at the Air Force Invitational in Colorado Springs, Colo., Jan. 31-Feb. 1.

Oregon State will come to Boise for the final home meet. The Broncos will host the Beavers on Feb. 1, wrapping up the regular season before the Mountain West Championships. Boise State won the past three contests against Oregon State, giving the Broncos a 3-2 all-time series lead. The dual against Oregon State will also feature the 2014 Big Splash competition.

The 2014 Mountain West Championships will be held Feb. 19-22, in San Antonio, at Palo Alto College Aquatic Center.

"This is a great conference and I'm glad we got to stay," Hill said. "The Mountain West Conference features a great group of schools and they are all competitive. We are always aiming for the team win in the conference."
