Boise State Swimming and Diving Releases 2012-13 Schedule

BOISE, Idaho-Boise State women's swimming and diving released its 2012-13 schedule Thursday, including a pair of home meets. The Broncos will seek to defend their title at the Mountain West Championships Feb. 20-23, in San Antonio.

"We have quite a few new teams we are competing against this year that will provide new challenges as we move into a new phase of our program," said head coach Kristin Hill. "We have always competed against teams that are better than us, as we know that's what it takes to elevate our program to new levels."

Boise State, which enters its seventh season of swimming and diving, will host BYU Dec. 15, at the Boise West YMCA. The final home meet of the season will be Jan. 19, 2013, against conference foe Wyoming. The Broncos have only faced the Cougars once previously, falling in dual-meet competition Nov. 9, 2009, in Provo, Utah. Boise State went head to head with the Cowgirls for the first time at the 2012 MW Championships, where Wyoming took fourth.

The Broncos will hit the road for the first meet of the season Oct. 6, at in-state rival Idaho. The early-season road meets continue at Pacific-12 Conference opponents Oregon State (Nov. 3) and Arizona (Nov. 17). The Broncos will also face University of British Columbia Nov. 3, in Corvallis, Ore.

For the fourth-straight season Boise State will travel to the Missouri Invitational in Columbia, Mo., for its fall focus meet. The Broncos finished second behind the host Tigers each of the past two seasons.

After hosting BYU, Boise State will travel to Honolulu Dec. 31-Jan. 9, for holiday training and competition before returning home for the meet against Wyoming.

The final two meets of the season will be on the road at Denver (Jan. 25) and at Colorado State (Jan. 26). The Broncos defeated the Rams last season in the final meet before the conference championships.

First-year diving coach Allison Brennan will take the Bronco divers to a pair of additional invitational meets. The Wildcat Diving Invitational takes place Nov. 15-18, in Tucson, Ariz., in conjunction with the swimming meet Nov. 17 at Arizona. The divers will also compete at the Air Force Academy Diving Invitational Jan. 25-26.

"We add Arizona to our schedule, and that will be a challenging meet that will give our student-athletes the opportunity to compete against some of the top female college swimmers and divers in the U.S.," Hill said. "We are excited to be hosting BYU in December and Wyoming in January as neither of these teams have come to Boise before. We travel to Colorado this year and will swim Denver, a team that we feel is pretty comparable to our team. We are excited to return to Missouri for our fall invitational.  That meet always attracts great teams, and Missouri broke into the top 15 this past season, so the level of competition should be even higher this season."

The year builds up to the 2013 Mountain West Championships, when the Broncos return to Palo Alto Natatorium in San Antonio. The facility is where Boise State won the Western Athletic Conference Championship in 2011, before joining the Mountain West. The Broncos won the 2012 MW crown in Oklahoma City, for their third-consecutive conference title. The 2010 WAC title also came in San Antonio, at Davis Natatorium.

"We look forward to getting back to San Antonio for the Mountain West Championships - it's at a great facility that really has been good to us as a team," Hill said. "The team is excited for NCAAs after sending four swimmers there last season - we have high goals and want to take our team to the next level as a program and NCAAs is the place to make that happen."

The Broncos will be seeking a third-straight appearance at the NCAA Championships. The 2013 meet will be held March 21-23, in Indianapolis.

Boise State will also be hosting its inaugural Alumnae Meet Oct. 20, at the campus pool in the Kinesiology Annex Building.
