BOISE, Idaho-Boise State University head swimming and diving coach Kristin Hill announced Wednesday the hiring of Eddie Larios as assistant swimming coach. Larios previously served as the volunteer coach for the Broncos and has more than three years experience coaching at all levels in the state of Idaho.

"When it came time to hire a new assistant coach, I knew we had a great fit for the program who had extensive experience working with this team," said Hill. "Throughout the past two seasons, Eddie has stood out as someone who should be on our full time paid staff. The team trusts him and responds so well to his coaching style, and him and I have a great balance and work very well together. All the swimmers who have trained under his leadership rave about him, and we have had the same experience with him as a coach on our staff."

Larios joined the Bronco staff as a volunteer assistant swimming coach in the fall of 2012. He has experience coaching all training groups for the team, including sprint and distance, IM and stroke groups. As a volunteer this past season, Larios helped coach the team to their fourth championship in five years, winning the Mountain West conference championships by 102 points. He was a part of the NCAA coaching staff that took seven swimmers to the NCAA Championships over the past two years.

"I'm very excited to be able to continue to be a part of the Bronco family," said Larios. "Coach Hill has been a great mentor to me these past few years and I respect everything she has done as a coach and a leader. Being able to work with her will only continue to help my growth as a swimming coach. I believe that together we can continue to compete at a high level not only within our conference, but nationally, as well."

Prior to his position at Boise State, Larios served as the assistant swimming coach for the Boise YMCA Swim Team. There he coached all ages and skill levels, from novice to national-level swimmers. In the summer of 2013 Larios was appointed as the Western Age Group Zone assistant coach.

As a head high school coach, Larios successfully led the Centennial High School boys and girls during the 2011 and 2012 seasons. The boys won the Idaho State Swimming Championships in 2012, culminating an undefeated season and moving up from fifth place in 2011. He led the girls team to a third-place finish at Districts and a sixth-place finish at State. Larios was nominated for Swimming Coach of the Year honors for his team's success and dramatic improvement.

During his tenure at Boise YMCA Swim Club, Larios was also hired as the head coach at Hillcrest Country Club in Boise, Idaho There he led a staff and coached a team of more than 100 swimmers to their most successful season in recent history with a third place finish at the 2011 City Championship meet.

Most recently, Larios has served on the University of Georgia and Stanford University swimming camp staffs, working closely with both programs collegiate coaches to help young swimmers become stronger through better technique and training.

Larios is completing his undergraduate degree in Exercise Science at Boise State and will graduate in December 2014.

"Eddie is a high energy coach who communicates well, relates well with our team members, and builds confidence in our swimmers," said Hill. "He was an integral part of our program these past two years that set new records in the pool and the classroom. He understands our philosophy that we are building character in these young women, and he is very good at helping us create a phenomenal team environment."
