Bronco Swimmers Olympic Trials Bound

BOISE, Idaho-Five members of the 2012 Mountain West Champion Boise State swimming and diving team will be competing at the 2012 U.S. Olympic Team Trials June 25-July 2, in Omaha, Neb.

Former Broncos Amber Boucher and Stephanie North, along with rising juniors Rachel Heaney and Chelsea Miller and rising sophomore Heather Harper will all be representing the Boise YMCA Swim Team. It is the first appearance at the Olympic Trials for Boise State and for each student-athlete.

Prelims will begin at 10 a.m. (CT) each day. The evening sessions will start at 7 p.m. (CT). A complete meet schedule is available below. Olympic Trials are competed in a 50-meter pool (long course). NCAA meets are conducted in 25-yard pools (short course).

Video of every event will be available online or on television. All but the fastest heats of prelims can be seen live at The fastest two to four heats of prelims (depending on the event) will be aired on tape delay by NBC Sports (see below for TV schedule). The evening sessions will be broadcast live on NBC in the Eastern and Central time zones and delayed in the Mountain  (7 p.m.) and Pacific (8 p.m.) time zones.

North is scheduled to swim the 50- and 100-meter freestyle events. North, who won 16 conference championships while at Boise State, has been the most successful Bronco in long-course competition. She is seeded 33rd in the 100 freestyle, the top mark among the Broncos' entrants. North clocked her personal-best time of 55.76 when she placed 24th at the 2011 ConocoPhillips Summer Nationals. She also took 17th in the event last month at the Santa Clara International Invitational.

Boucher will join North in the sprint freestyle events and add the 100-meter butterfly to her meet program, giving her events Monday, Friday and Sunday, for a full week of competition. Boucher capped her decorated collegiate career as a three-time conference swimmer of the year and two-time All-American.

Heaney will swim the 200-meter butterfly. The North Bend, Ore., native is the only one of the five Bronco swimmers who came to Boise State with an Olympic Trials cut already in tow.

Miller is set to compete in the 200-meter breaststroke. She earned her qualifying time June 22, 2011 at the Texas Senior Circuit meet. Miller is a five-time all-conference performer during her first two seasons at Boise State.

Harper, the most recent Bronco to qualify for the meet, will swim the 100-meter breaststroke. The Redmond, Wash., native earned her Olympic Trials cut in March, just two weeks after helping Boise State to its third-straight conference championship in her freshman season.

Incoming freshman Jenni Domanowski will join Heany in the 200 butterfly. Domanowski, from Arlington, Wash., signed a National Letter of Intent with Boise State in the fall.

In the 50-, 100- and 200-meter races the top 16 times from prelims will advance to semifinals. The top eight in semifinals will move on to the finals. In the longer events, the top eight preliminary times advance directly to finals.

The top two finishers in the finals of each event will earn a spot on Team USA at the 2012 Olympic Games in London. Additional relay-only spots will be filled with the next-best finishers in the 100 freestyle.
