Broncos Earn National Academic Honors

Boise, Idaho (June 21, 2017) - The College Swimming & Diving Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) has released its national academic honors for the 2016-17 season and among those recognized was Boise State. The Broncos earned the team award with eight individuals also receiving academic accolades.

Boise State received the award for Scholar All-American Team for their combined GPA of 3.66. The Broncos as a team ranked seventh in NCAA Division I and second highest among members of the six western conferences (Big Sky, Big West, Mountain West, Pacific-12, West Coast and Western Athletic). The Broncos turned in the highest GPA of the 10 Mountain West schools.

To be recognized as a CSCAA Scholar All-America Team a school must have a 3.0 or better accumulative GPA.

Boise State also had eight individuals earned accolades for their academic performance during the year with six being named Scholar All-Americans, Brittany Aoyama (Sr., Stockton, Calif.), Felicity Cann (Sr., Tacoma, Wash.), Emma Chard (Jr., Tacoma, Wash.), Ally Kleinsorgen (So., Succasunna, N.J.), Katelyn Martin (Sr., Fullerton, Calif.) and Abbey Sorenson (So., Draper, Utah), while two others, Karli Kriewall (Sr., Albert Lea, Minn.) and Kacee Olson (Jr., Mesa, Ariz.), received honorable mention recognition.

Earlier this year Aoyama was named a College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-American Second Team and Academic All-District 7.

In CSCAA individual honors Boise State and Wyoming tied with eight each among the 10 MW schools sponsoring the sport, Boise State had six CSCAA Scholar All-Americans and two honorable mention, Wyoming had two scholar all-Americans and six honorable mentions. In all seven MW schools were represented with a total of 24 individuals receiving one of the two accolades.

For an individual to earn recognition by the CSCAA for Scholar All-American a student-athlete must have a GPA of 3.5 or better and competed in their respective NCAA/NAIA/NJCAA Swimming and Diving Championships. To receive honorable mention status, students have similarly achieved a GPA of 3.50 and achieved a "B" time standard or competed at a regional or zone qualifying meet.
