BOISE, Idaho - The Boise State swimming and diving team inked two new commitments to join the Bronco family for the 2008-09 season, announced head coach Kristin Hill, Friday.

"We have done a great job of building this new program, and these women will be outstanding contributors to our quest to develop a highly competitive swimming and diving team,” said head coach Kristin Hill. “For us it has been about more than just fast times. We are always striving to grow our team with great students and leaders who are motivated and excited about our team vision. With Emily and Stephanie we have added strong students who have team leadership experience, and they will both be positive contributors to our team both in and out of the pool. Our goal as a team is to place high at our conference championships and bring in swimmers and divers who have the potential to qualify for the NCAA Championships. We are now one step closer to that goal."

Here is a look at the 2008-09 recruiting class:

Emily Irvin (breaststroke, fly and IM):
Irvin, a native of Bakersfield, Calif., is senior at Stockdale High School where she competes for coach Adam Bledsoe ... Outside of the high school season, she swims for the Bakersfield Swim Club under coach Keith Moore ... Three-year Valley Champion in the 100 breast ... Holds both the area and school record in the 100 breast and 100 fly ... Serves as the captain of her swim team at Stockdale ... Member of the National Honor Society and the Fellowship of the Christian Athlete.

Hill on Irvin:
“Emily comes from a strong club team as she swims with Keith Moore at Bakersfield Swim Club. Keith called me about Emily in the fall and thought she would be a great match for our program. We followed her progress this season and after the great time drops she had I'm so excited for the opportunity to work with her. She will be a great addition to our breaststroke core and could emerge as one of our top breaststrokers this next season. Emily is a very strong student and she found a great fit here at Boise State academically within our math department.”

Why Irvin chose Boise State: “I choose Boise State because it has everything I wanted for my major, as well as a great team. Kristin is great and I cannot wait to swim with her as my coach. The city of Boise is also beautiful, so I am looking forward to living there.”

The Klamath Falls, Ore., native holds eight school records in addition to seven state titles ... A two-time All-America consideration ... Earned four varsity letters in both swimming and track ... Served as swim team captain for two years and named girls track captain for one.

Hill on North: “Stephanie is from a smaller town in Oregon and is really someone I consider to be untapped. Her coach, Dan Zimmer, has clearly done a great job, and we look forward to her growth as she becomes part of a bigger program at the collegiate level. Stephanie is a multi-sport athlete and it will be fun to see her focus even more on her swimming at this level. She comes from a big family and was looking for a family atmosphere which is exactly what we have here at Boise State, both in the athletic department and within our swimming and diving program. She will make an immediate impact in our sprinting program and could grow to be one of the best sprinters in our conference.”

Why North chose Boise State: “I decided to choose Boise State because on my recruiting visit I fell in love with the town and school. The coaches and girls on the team are absolutely amazing. It really feels like one big family, a lot like my own. When in the recruiting process, Coach Hill kept in touch and made it feel like she truly cared.”
