AUBURN, Ala.-Boise State qualified its 200-yard freestyle relay for the consolation final and finished the first day of the 2012 NCAA Women's Swimming and Diving Championships in 29th place. The Broncos scored two points Thursday, with a 16th-place finish in the relay.
Amber Boucher, Stevie Hughey, Sydney Johansen and Stephanie North clocked a 1:29.83 in the morning session to qualify 15th. The preliminary time is No. 2 all-time at Boise State, just a tenth of a second off of the time the same quartet posted to qualify for the meet.
Boucher, Hughey and North all swam the 50-yard freestyle individually, as well. Boucher (22.67) finished 39th in prelims to the lead the way. North (22.81) checked in tied for 47th, while Hughey (23.12) took 63rd.
Johansen was the first Bronco to swim an individual event at this year's championships. She finished 59th in the 200-yard individual medley with a 2:05.07.
The Broncos return to the pool tomorrow. Boucher and North will be competing in the 100-yard butterfly. North will swim the 200-yard freestyle and Johansen is entered in the 100-yard breaststroke.
