Athlete of the Week 1/4-10: Amber Boucher
BOISE, Idaho – Eleven first place finishes in three meets has earned sophomore Amber Boucher the first Bronco Athlete of the Week honors for 2010. Boucher’s outstanding performances helped the Broncos to a 2-1 dual record with wins over Tulane and WAC-rival San Diego.

Boucher owned a perfect record in her individual events last week. On Thursday, she beat out the competition from San Diego State and Tulane in the 50 free and the 100 fly as well as helping the 400 free relay team to a first-place finish over both teams. Her only loss of the week came as part of the 200 medley relay, which was beat out by San Diego State but finished ahead of Tulane. On Saturday, Boucher helped both of her relay teams to victories over San Diego while also winning the 100 fly and 200 free events for the Broncos first dual victory over San Diego in program history.

Boucher and the Broncos will climb back up on the starting blocks on Jan. 23 when they host in-state rival Idaho at 1 p.m. at the Boise-West YMCA.

The gymnastics team will kick off their season on Friday with the Flips Invitational in Reno, Nev. The wrestling team will face North Dakota State on the road on Friday as well. The women’s basketball team will travel to Moscow for an early rivalry game with Idaho on Saturday. The men’s basketball team has a lot on its plate with three games this week, beginning with a Louisiana Tech in Taco Bell Arena at 7 p.m. tonight.
