DeWane Sets Six Records For Boise State

IRVINE, Calif. On the opening day of the UC Irvine Invitational, the Boise State University swimming and diving team set 10 school records including six in the sprint meet by senior Nikki DeWane.

 

After Saturday’s competition, DeWane held the Boise State record in the 50, 100 and 200 yard freestyle as well as the top time in the 50, 100 and 200 yard breaststroke. She opened the day with a 2:09.13 in the 200 yard freestyle, before registering a 1:12.46 in the 100 yard breaststroke event and a 33.48 in the 50 yard breaststroke competition. DeWane then came back with a 58.84 in the 100 yard freestyle, a 2:40.22 in the 200 yard breaststroke and capped the day off with a 26.74 in the 50 yard freestyle.

 

Holly Chatelain and Kendra MacLean each set two school records of their own. 

 

Chatelain was the first Bronco to ever swim the 400 individual medley in competition and did so in 5:26.09. She then registered a 32.09 in the 50 yard butterfly.

 

MacLean posted her first Boise State record of the day in the distance portion of the meet in the 500 freestyle (5:51.18) and then followed it up in the 50 yard backstroke sprint (31.72).

 

Other Broncos competing in the UC Irvine Invitational include:

 

Siobhan Gilmartin in the 50 yard (28.30), 100 yard (1:02.63), 200 yard (2:18.63) and 500 yard (6:24.32) freestyle events as well as the 100 yard backstroke (1:15.73).

 

Jessica Clark swam in the 50 yard (31.07), 100 yard (1:06.97) and 200 yard (2:28.18) freestyle events as well as the 50 yard backstroke (39.85) and 50 yard butterfly (38.57).

 

Mary DeLeon Guerrero also competed in the 50 yard (40.65) and 100 yard (1:32.46) breaststroke along with the 50 yard freestyle (30.15).

 

Kelsey Woodfield registered a 6:11.98 in the 500 freestyle, a 1:20.93 in the 100 yard breaststroke, a 36.88 in the 50 yard breaststroke, a 2:40.27 in the 50 yard backstroke and a 28.40 in the 50 yard freestyle.

 

Kelly Knapp posted a time of 42.44 in the 50 yard breaststroke, a 2:24.18 in the 200 yard freestyle, a 32.09 in the 50 yard butterfly and a 1:19.46 in the 100 yard butterfly. Knapped then concluded her day of competition with a 30.15 in the 50 yard freestyle.

 

Meghan Jansen competed in six events including the 50 yard backstroke (36.59), the 100 yard backstroke (1:18.65), the 50 yard butterfly (35.96), the 100 yard butterfly (1:22.65), the 50 yard freestyle (30.45) and the 100 yard freestyle (1:09.15).

 

Emily Fransen posted a 6:55.47 in the 500 freestyle, a 2:29.66 in the 200 yard freestyle, a 1:07.34 in the 100 yard freestyle, a 39.49 in the 50 yard backstroke and a 30.67 in the 50 yard freestyle.

 

Chatelain also recorded a 1:21.31 in the 100 yard breaststroke, a 29.17 in the 50 yard freestyle, a 2:35.91 in the 200 yard IM and a 2:14.64 in the 200 yard freestyle.

 

MacLean also swam in the 200 freestyle (2:09.70), the 100 yard backstroke (1:08.32), the 100 yard freestyle (1:00.76) and the 200 yard backstroke (2:24.49).

 

DeWane registered a 6:21.29 in the 500 yard freestyle to conclude the first day of competition for the Broncos at the UC Irvine Invitational. The meet will continue Sunday, Jan. 7, 2007, beginning at 10:00 a.m.
