Sorensen and Kleinsorgen Lead in Texas

COLLEGE STATION, Texas - Abbey Sorensen and Ally Kleinsorgen finished sixth and 13th respectively in the 50 yard freestyle to lead Boise State’s swimming and diving team on the opening day of the Art Adamson Invitational at College Station, Texas. In all, five Broncos reached Thursday night’s finals in their respective events.

Sorensen reached the 50 yard free finals by swimming a season-best 22.82 in the preliminaries this morning. She followed that up with a 22.87 in the A final flight to finish sixth.

Kleinsorgen swimming in her first 50 yard free race of the year clocked a 23.09 in the morning preliminary competition to reach the finals. The junior then swam a 22.95 during the B final to finish fifth in the flight and 13th overall.

Emmie Jennings also reached the 50 yard free finals Thursday evening turning in a time of 23.41 ─ a season-best time ─ to finish fourth in the D flight final and 28th overall.

Lucia Davis swam the 500 yard freestyle on the opening day in Texas recording a time of 4:49.81 in the prelims to advance to the finals. The freshman from Sweet Home, Ore., shaved time off her first race turning in a 4:48.60 ─ a career-best time ─ placing fourth in the C flight final and 20th overall.

The fifth Bronco to reach the finals on Thursday night in College Station was Laura Williams who swam the 200 yard individual medley. The junior clocked a 2:03.10 in the prelims, then followed with a season-best 2:02.88 in the D final to place fifth in the flight and 29th overall.

The Bronco divers also competed today in the 3-meter springboard where Cassidy Bose turned in the top score of the day with 248.95 to place 18th overall.

The 200 free and 400 medley relays also competed Thursday night. The Broncos’ A team in the 200 free featuring Sorensen, Kleinsorgen, Jennings and Lydiah Almeter recorded a time of 1:31.05 to finish sixth overall. The B team of Robin Pinger, Cody Evans, Madison Frederick and Monica Bottelberghe swam 1:33.36 to place 13th.

Boise State’s A team in the 400 medley relay featuring Kleinsorgen, Williams, Jennings and Emma Chard placed 11th overall clocking a time of 3:40.35.
