Broncos Conclude Day One at Nationals

MINNEAPOLIS—Boise State finished the first day of competition at the 2014 Women’s Swimming & Diving Championships. The Broncos competed in three events on Thursday, including the 200 freestyle relay, the 400 medley relay and the 50-yard freestyle event.

In the first event of the day, Brittany Aoyama, Katelyn Martin, Jessica Bottelberghe and Sam Wicks clocked a 1:30.04 in the 200 freestyle relay. The quartet finished 24th in the preliminary round.

Freshman Brittany Aoyama and sophomore Sam Wicks both swam the 50-yard freestyle. Wicks finished 45th (22.75) and Aoyama 50th (22.95).

The Broncos finished the afternoon with the 400 medley relay. Wicks, Heather Harper, Aoyama and Martin stopped the clock in 3:38.09, for 26th place.

Boise State’s school and conference record-setting 200 medley relay will take to the pool tomorrow on the national stage at 11 a.m. CT.

Also tomorrow, Aoyama will compete in the 100-yard butterfly and Wicks will compete in the 100-yard backstroke. Wicks will look to best her school-record time of 53.02, which she set last month at the Mountain West Championships.
