ATLANTA – Boise State’s 800 free relay of Emma Chard, Brittany Aoyama, Blake Balogh and Felicity Cann finished 22nd overall Wednesday on opening night of the NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships in Atlanta.

The quartet finished eighth in heat three in a time of 7:08.65 at Georgia Tech’s McAuley Aquatic Center. The time goes down as the third-fastest in school history.

“It’s a tough event to start the nationals with, we were in with a lot of good teams in our heat,” said Boise State head coach Jeremy Kipp. “We were just a little off on each leg, but the girls did a really good job racing and staying in it.”

Bronco swimmers will be back in action Thursday, beginning with preliminary heats at 8 a.m. MT. Chard will compete first for Boise State in the 500 free, followed by Sam Wicks swimming in the 200 IM and the 200 free relay prelims. Consolation and championship finals are scheduled to start at 4 p.m. MT.

“Tomorrow we start off with three races; it’s a new day and we’re switching gears. We’re going to build on this, and keep competing,” Kipp added.

Thursday's races will be available to watch live online at http://atlantaswimming.com/Webcast.
