COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Senior Erin Kohlbeck came up less than 14 points away from making history at the NCAA Zone E Diving Championships Wednesday. The Bronco diver finished 12th on platform, three spots away from becoming the first Boise State diver to qualify for the NCAA Championships.

The top nine finishers on platform would go on to the NCAA Championships at this week's meet. Kohlbeck finished Wednesday's prelims in eighth place, her score of 239.05 ahead of the 10th-place competitor by 4.50 points.

By the end of the finals, however, Kohlbeck would fall out of the qualifying range and finish 12th with a score of 473.45, a total of 13.65 points behind the score of 487.15 posted by final qualifier Karolyn Loftus of Arizona.

Bronco freshman Kacee Olson finished 21st in prelims with a score of 203.55, ending up just three slots out of the finals.

Sophomores Karli Kriewall and Jordan Marthens were scheduled to compete on platform but were scratched due to injury.

"We started the day with two injury scratches, which is never a good way to start the day. However, Erin led the team with two great sets of dives," said Boise State diving head coach John Lynch. "Missing NCAAs by such a narrow margin was tough, but I am very proud of how Erin ended her career as a Bronco diver."

USC's Haley Ishimatsu captured the event with a score of 656.05, followed by runner-up Mara Aiacoboae (649.10) of Arizona State and Nevada's Krysta Palmer (629.30) in third place.
