Final Meet Results Get Acrobat Reader

BOISE, Idaho - On a warm winter day in Boise the Broncos rolled to a Mountain West Conference victory over the Wyoming Cowgirls 187-112 on Senior Day at the West Family YMCA and Boise City Aquatic Center. Boise State claimed victories in 13 of 16 events on the day as the Broncos remained undefeated in dual meets on the year at 3-0.

Abbey Sorensen led the Broncos accounting for 40 points in the meet with four wins in the 50-yard freestyle, 200-yard backstroke, 200-yard medley relay and 400-yard freestyle relay. Ally Kleinsorgen followed Sorensen with 34 points powered by three victories, Emma Chard added 29 points and had three wins, Emily Mathis contributed 27 points behind three victories and Robin Pinger chipped in 21 points and two first-place finishes ─ points from relays were included in totals.


Highlights:

  • The three Bronco seniors Monica Bottelberghe, Emma Chard and Emily Mathis combined for 60 points in their final home meet.

  • Boise State stretched its home win streak out to 23 straight with the victory over the Cowgirls. The last home loss was 10 years ago on Feb. 7, 2009 at the hands of Oregon State (177-111). 

  • Boise State has now won nine consecutive dual meets, the last loss was at UCLA on Jan. 6, 2017 when the Broncos fell to the Bruins but defeated Kansas head-to-head.

  • The Broncos won 13 of 16 events against the Cowgirls and claimed eight second-place finishes as well.

  • Boise State claimed the top-two places in seven events: 50-yard free, 100-yard free, 200-yard free, 500-yard free, 1,000 yard free, 200-yard breaststroke and 400 individual medley. 

  • The Broncos claimed the top-four places in the 500-yard free and the top-three in the 100-yard free. 

  • Two swimmers recorded NCAA “B” standard times in the meet. Ally Kleinsorgen clocked a time of 54.96 in the 100-yard backstroke, while Abbey Sorensen turned in a 22.97 in the 50-yard freestyle.

  • Cassidy Bose tallied a NCAA Zone E qualifying score of 285.60 points on the 3-meter springboard.

Race/Dive Recaps:

  • 200-Yard Medley Relay: Boise State’s A team (Kleinsorgen, Pinger, Jennings, Sorensen) claimed the title with a 1:43.04, while the B team (Hogg, Williams, Bottelberghe, Zacest) place third with a 1:46.28.

  • 1,000-Yard Freestyle: Hayley Hill and Lucia Davis swept the top-two places, respectively, with times of 10:24.93 and 10:28.00.

  • 200-Yard Freestyle: Emma Chard, Boise State’s school record holder, claimed the victory in the 200 free with a time of 1:50.24. She was followed by Cody Evans in second place with a 1:51.34. 

  • 100-Yard Backstroke: Ally Kleinsorgen turned in a 54.96 for the win, it was also a NCAA “B” standard time.

  • 100-Yard Breaststroke: Emily Mathis claimed the first of three wins on the day clocking a 1:04.03, Laura Williams placed third with a 1:04.61.

  • 200-Yard Butterfly: Freshman Brittany Wen won the event with a 2:03.86, while Mandy Barnes (2:07.10) and Monica Bottelberghe (2:07.96) placed third and fourth, respectively. 

  • 50-Yard Freestyle: Abbey Sorensen won her second event on the day with a time of 22.97 just making the NCAA “B” standard. Emmie Jennings placed second with a 24.24.

  • 3-Meter Springboard: Cassidy Bose recorded a season-high and NCAA qualifying score of 285.60 to place second. Freshman Taylor Clark also recorded a season-high score of 253.43.

  • 100-Yard Freestyle: Robin Pinger took the 100 free by clocking a 50.98. Cody Evans was second with a 51.19, while Ally Kleinsorgen placed-third at 51.80.

  • 200-Yard Backstroke: Abbey Sorensen’s third victory of the day came in the 200 fly with a time of 1:59.38 just missing her second a “B” standard time of the season by 0:00.19. 

  • 200-Yard Breaststroke: Emily Mathis’ second win on Saturday came on a 2:16.72 in the 200 breaststroke, her second-fastest time this year. Laura Williams followed in second-place with a time of 2:21.46.

  • 500-Yard Freestyle: Boise State swept the top four places led by Emma Chard’s 4:56.42, while Hayley Hill (5:03.08) took second, Lucia Davis (5:05.30) placed third and Mandy Barnes (5:06.65) was fourth. 

  • 100-Yard Butterfly: Emmie Jennings placed second in the 100 fly with a 56.18.

  • 1-Meter Springboard: Cassidy Bose turned in a 250.05 to place third.

  • 400-Yard Individual Medley: Emily Mathis completed her day with a third win coming in the 400 IM with a time of 4:29.93. Brittany Wen followed with a 4:30.92.

  • 400-Yard Freestyle Relay: Boise State’s A team (Kleinsorgen, Sorensen, Evans, Chard) in the 400 free relay clocked a time of 3:26.14 o claim the final victory of the day.


Next Up For the Broncos: Boise State travels to Flagstaff, Ariz., to face the NAU Lumberjacks in a dual meet at high elevation next Saturday in their final contest of the regular season before heading to San Antonio, Texas, Feb. 14-17 to defend their Mountain West Conference Championship.
