WHAT IS HAPPENING

  • The Broncos are on the road at the Stanford Cardinal Tournament at Standford, Calif., where they will face a trio of Pacific-12 Conference opponents. 

  • The action begins Friday night at 6 p.m. (MT) when Boise State takes on Oregon (1-3) in a rematch from last week in Boise when the Broncos defeated the Ducks 3-2. 

  • On Saturday Boise State will face the Cal Golden Bears (10-7) at 10 a.m. (MT) followed by a 1 p.m. encounter with its host the Stanford Cardinal (10-4).

  • All matches will take place at Stanford’s beach volleyball stadium. 

BRONCOS TO HOST EXHIBITION PAIRS TOURNAMENT

  • Boise State has added one more date of competition to its schedule for 2017 and will host an exhibition pairs tournament next Thursday (April 20) featuring pairs from Boise State, the College of Idaho, Northwest Nazarene University and the College of Southern Idaho. 

  • The tournament will be held at the Boise State Sand Volleyball Complex on the corner of Belmont street and S. Oakland Avenue from 1:30-7 p.m. (MT).

  • Admission will be free.

  • The tournament will feature one bracket featuring all of the pairs, as well as a consolation bracket ... there will not be any direct school versus school competition. 

ABOUT THE BRONCOS

  • Boise State is in its fourth season of beach volleyball and competes as an independent in the sport.

  • The Broncos have played six matches this season going 4-2 overall.

  • Boise State went 1-1 at home last week falling 3-2 to Sacramento State, before regrouping to defeat Oregon 3-2 in the final match of the day.

  • Boise State was led by Sierra Nobley and Sabryn Roberts who won both of their matches at the number three position. 

  • Earning splits on the day were Maddy O’Donnell and Maddi Osburn at No. 1 pair, Janell Walley and Emily Sullivan at No. 2 pair, as well as the tandem of Jaymee-Lee Bulda and Laney Hayes on court four. 

THE BRONCO LINEUP

  • No. 1 Pair: Boise State is led by Maddy O’Donnell and Maddi Osburn who have gone 4-2 at the top position.

  • No. 2 Pair: Emily Sullivan and Janell Walley moved into the second pair position after the season opener where they are 4-1 ... they are 5-1 overall on the year. 

  • No. 3 Pair: Playing at the third position are Sierra Nobley and Sabryn Roberts who are one of two pairs to have 5-1 marks entering the weekend.

  • No. 4 Pair: At the fourth position the Broncos play the duo of Jaymee-Lee Bulda and Laney Hayes who are 4-2 this season.

  • No. 5 Pair: The freshmen tandem of Jensen Allen and Cassedi Simon have competed in all six matches to date at No. 5 pair going 2-4 overall.

ABOUT THE DUCKS

  • Oregon enters the week at 1-3 overall.

  • The Ducks are coming off a 1-1 performance last week in Boise defeating Sacramento State 3-2 before falling to Boise State 3-2.

ABOUT THE GOLDEN BEARS

  • California enters the week at 10-7 overall.

  • After opening the season on a 8-0 run the Golden Bears have gone 2-7 in their last nine contests, including a 0-3 mark last weekend falling at Saint Mary’s (3-2), at home to San Jose State (3-2) and at Stanford (3-2).

ABOUT THE CARDINAL

  • Stanford enters the week at 10-4 overall.

  • The Cardinal have gone 4-1 in their last five matches which includes an active three-match win streak with wins over San Francisco (5-0), San Jose State (4-1) and California (3-2) this past Tuesday at Stanford.

WHAT’S BACK

  • Boise State returns seven letterwinners from the 2016 squad that went 5-6 overall.

  • There are a lot of unknowns on this squad as no pairs from last year’s top three are back in tack. 

  • The Broncos return senior Maddy O’Donnell who played on the No. 1 pair last season where she went 3-8 with Hannah Hubbard who is no longer with the program. 

  • Boise State also returns junior Sierra Nobley who was a part of the second pair with the now graduated Sarah Baugh. They went 6-5 as a doubles team. 

  • Maddi Osburn is also back after being half of last year’s No. 3 doubles pair for the Broncos recording a 8-3 overall mark.

  • Sabryn Roberts went 3-5 at No. 4 pair last spring.

  • The No. 5 pair that went 8-3 as well is back featuring Laney Hayes and Jaymee-Lee Bulda
