WHAT’S HAPPENING

  • Boise State (4-4) beach volleyball concludes its nine matches in nine days road trip at Folsom, Calif., this Friday and Saturday when the Broncos play the final three regular season matches of the year. 
  • The Broncos will open play against their host the Sacramento State Hornets (1-16) at 5 p.m. (Mountain) on Friday ... this is the third meeting between the two programs with the series tied at one win apiece ... Sac State won last year by a 3-2 score, all of the matches have been at Sacramento. 
  • The action will continue on Saturday with two neutral matches starting with the Pacific Tigers (4-6) at 9:30 a.m. ... Pacific leads the series 2-0, all of the matches have been at Sacramento State ... the Tigers won 4-1 last year. 
  • The trip ends later on Saturday with a 1 p.m. (Mountain) encounter with the Cal Poly Mustangs (4-9) ... This is also the third meeting in the series with teams tied at one win each ... Cal Poly won last year’s meeting 3-2 at Sacramento. 

SACRAMENTO STATE’S NEW FACILITY - LIVERMORE COMMUNITY PARK IN FOLSOM
  • If you are going to the tournament this weekend, Sacramento State is using a new facility. The Livermore Community Park in Folsom serves as the Hornets’ home facility for beach volleyball for the first time in 2016.
  • Sacramento State had spent the previous three seasons playing its beach matches at the Sacramento Softball Complex.
  • Livermore Community Park, which is about a 20-25 minute drive from Sacramento State’s campus, features four beach courts with lights. The complex is located at 6004 Riley Street in Folsom.
  • Admission to all matches is FREE, and spectators are encouraged to bring their own chairs and blankets. Outside food and drinks are permitted.

WHAT’S NEXT
  • Boise State will close out the 2016 season with an All Idaho Exhibition Tournament at home next Saturday, April 23. The tournament will feature teams from the College of Idaho, Northwest Nazarene and Southern Idaho. 

RECENTLY FOR BOISE STATE
  • Boise State has been on a nine-day road trip which began at Stanford last weekend where the Broncos went 1-3 overall with a win over Stanford (3-2) and losses to Saint Mary’s (3-2), Arizona State (3-2) and California (4-1).
  • The Broncos then went to Honolulu, Hawaii, where they played the fifth-ranked Hawaii Rainbow Wahine on Tuesday falling 4-1 ... Boise State then defeated Hawaii Pacific 5-0 in an exhibition match on Wednesday. 

LOOKING AT BOISE STATE
  • Boise State is in its third season of beach volleyball. 
  • The Broncos enter this weekend’s matches at Folsom, Calif., with a 4-4 overall record and have lost three straight.
  • Kaitlyn Oliver and Maddi Osburn have the top record on the team of 6-2, they started out playing No. 4 pair before moving to No. 3 for the Stanford Tournament. 
  • No. 2 pair of Sarah Baugh and Sierra Nobley are tied with the No. 5 pair of Laney Hayes and Jaymee-Lee Bulda at 5-3 overall.

AFFILIATION
  • The Broncos will continue to compete as an independent for the 2016 season.
  • Boise State is currently one of three Mountain West schools competing in the sport, San Jose State and New Mexico are the other two. 
  • Other Mountain West schools who are reportedly considering adding the sport include: UNLV and San Diego State.

COACHING STAFF
  • Shawn Garus returns for his third season as head coach of the Broncos entering the year at 8-18 overall.
  • Allison Buck joined the Boise State family on March 7th as the new beach volleyball assistant coach ... she came to Boise State from the University of New Mexico where she had worked for three years ... collegiately Buck was a standout libero for the Lobos’ indoor team 2008-11 and was a two-time All-Mountain West honoree.

HOME OF THE BRONCOS
  • The Boise State beach volleyball team calls the Boise State University Sand Volleyball Courts home.
  • It features three courts and is located on the corner of South Oakland Avenue and Belmont Street.

NCAA MAKES IT OFFICIAL
  • The NCAA officially added the sport of beach volleyball for the 2016 season moving it off the women’s emerging sports (exploratory/trial) list.
  • Along with the recognition came a name change from “sand” volleyball to “beach” volleyball to match the Olympics and what the international community calls the sport.
  • There are officially 47 NCAA DI programs for the 2016 season.
