Boise State Announces Sand Volleyball Schedule

BOISE, Idaho – Boise State released its sand volleyball schedule this afternoon featuring 15 matches and the first-ever home contests for the second-year program. The slate also includes matches versus four Pacific-12 Conference teams and a tournament that will feature five teams ranked in the AVCA’s Preseason Top-10 poll, as well as the only two schools who have won the national championship in Pepperdine (2) and Long Beach State (1).
   
“I am very excited about our schedule this year,” said coach Shawn Garus. “It is our second year at competing in sand volleyball and we were able to schedule some of the best teams in the country. I think that all four weekends will feature tough competition and I am excited for us to host our first home matches in the history of the program on April 24th with Oregon and Arizona coming to Boise. I think it will be fun for our team and will give the Boise State fans a chance to see what sand volleyball is all about.”
   
Boise State will open the campaign over spring break March 25-28 with a trip to the state of Arizona and close on Friday, April 24, with the first home matches for the Broncos.
    
The season starts in Arizona on Wednesday, March 25, at Grand Canyon in the first of five matches in the state over spring break. The Broncos will follow that with a contest at Arizona State on March 26 to conclude two days in the Phoenix metro area.  
   
Boise State will then head south to Tucson where they will compete in the Wildcat Spring Challenge at the University of Arizona March 27-28. The Broncos will open the tournament against their host the Arizona Wildcats at 3 p.m. (Mountain) on the 27th followed by a 5 p.m. encounter with Nebraska. The tournament will conclude on the 28th when Boise State faces Cal State Northridge.
    
The Broncos then head to Sacramento, Calif., for the Sacramento State Invitational April 3-5 for six matches. Boise State will face San Francisco and Mountain West member San Jose State on April 3; California and Cal Poly on April 4; then wrap-up the tournament on Sunday, April 5 against Pacific and Sacramento State.  
     
The road schedule concludes the weekend of April 11-12 when the Broncos head to the USA Volleyball Collegiate Challenge at Hermosa Beach, Calif. The field includes a total of nine teams and features the defending national champion and No. 1 ranked (2015 AVCA Preseason Poll) Pepperdine, as well as No. 2 Southern California, No. 4 Hawaii, No. 5 Long Beach State and No. 6 Loyola Marymount. The other three teams besides Boise State at the tournament include: Grand Canyon, San Francisco and Santa Clara. The tournament will feature team duals on the 11th followed by a flighted pairs tournament on the 12th.  
    
The season will conclude on April 24 in Boise with the Broncos’ first home matches in program history when the Oregon Ducks and Arizona Wildcats come to town for a round-robin tournament. The matches will be held at the new Boise State University Sand Volleyball Courts on the corner of Oakland Avenue and Belmont Street. Boise State will face Oregon at 1 p.m. (Mountain), followed by Arizona vs. Oregon at 3 p.m. The day and regular season will close with the Broncos taking on the Wildcats at 5 p.m.
