Broncos Dominate Pairs Tournament
April 19, 2018

BOISE, Idaho – Boise State’s beach volleyball dominated its exhibition pairs tournament Thursday afternoon recording a combined record of 18-6 overall between its seven teams. The tournament featured 28 pairs representing five schools from around the region: Boise State, College of Idaho, Northwest Nazarene, Southern Idaho and Treasure Valley.

The Broncos had three teams advance to the semifinals on Thursday with Janell Walley/Sabryn Roberts (3-0), Kenna Hanses/Skye Southwick (3-0) and Brindl Langley/Kiley Lewis (4-0) going undefeated at the competition. Darkness prevented the Walley/Roberts versus Hanses/Southwick semifinal from being played.

However, Langley and Lewis (4-0) did advance to the final – which was not played – after defeating Northwest Nazarene’s top team of Kendra Bodine and Madi Farrell (3-1) in their semifinal match. That contest was a battled and went to three sets before the Bronco tandem rallied from one set down to win 14-21, 21-16, 17-15.

Boise State’s Jaymee-Lee Bulda and Jensen Allen went 2-1 overall to finish tied for fifth. Kylee Johnson and Maya Watkins ended up going 2-2 overall and tied for ninth after falling to the College of Southern Idaho’s Esti Wilson and Sasha Legros (4-1) who placed tied for fifth.

Cassedi Simon and Samantha Headley finished with a 2-1 mark and would have played a pair from the College of Idaho Taylor Alexander and Ashley Pagan (2-1) for a chance to tie for fifth place but darkness prevented the contest from being played.

Southern Idaho’s Ellie Nesbitt and Morgan Weatherwax also tied for fifth place going 3-1 overall.

The Bronco team of Celine Christensen and Drew Hannemann went 2-2 on the day.

Boise State will return to regular season play this weekend as the Broncos close the 2018 campaign at home with two matches against the Washington Huskies at 5 p.m. on Friday and 1 p.m. on Saturday. Admission is free to the public.
