Boise State Dominates Oregon in Win

STANFORD, Calif. - Boise State’s beach volleyball team defeated the Oregon Ducks in dominating fashion Friday evening at Stanford as the top four pairs all earned straight-set victories in the 4-1 Bronco victory. Boise State earned its match clinching victory from Emily Sullivan and Janell Walley at No. 2 pair as they won 21-14, 21-18.

“Great win for the team today,” said coach Shawn Garus. “We expected Oregon to play hard today after we edged them 3-2 last week. I am very pleased that every pair played well today in a 4-1 victory. Now we turn our attention to two very solid programs in Cal and Stanford tomorrow.”

It was the second straight victory for the Broncos over the Ducks in 2017 as Boise State improved to 5-2 overall. The Stanford Tournament continues Saturday for Boise State as the Broncos face the Cal Bears (10-7) at 10 a.m. (Mountain) followed by a 1 p.m. encounter with the 20th-ranked Stanford Cardinal (11-4).

The day began with the Ducks taking No. 5 pair where Boise State’s freshmen tandem went down fighting in three sets 21-15, 19-21, 15-13.

Not long after, Jaymee-Lee Bulda and Laney Hayes pulled the Broncos even at 1-1 when they defeated Marine Hall-Poirier and Lauren Page 21-11, 21-16 on court four. The Boise State duo is now 5-2 on the year.

Sierra Nobley and Sabryn Roberts added a two-set victory at No. 3 pair where they beat Oregon’s Willow Johnson and Maddy Silberger-Franek 21-11, 21-16. With the win they improved to 6-1 overall.

Up one, Boise State’s No. 2 pair of Walley and Sullivan recorded the clinching victory for the Broncos as they downed Taylor Agost and August Raskie 21-14, 21-18. Walley and Sullivan also improved to 6-1 on the year.

The final touch on the victory came at No. 1 pair where Maddy O’Donnell and Maddi Osburn put away the Ducks’ top tandem of Lindsey Vander Weide and Brooke Van Sickle 21-14, 21-14. O’Donnell and Osburn moved to 5-2 overall with the victory.

In an exhibition match played Stanford’s duo of Chelsea Red-Horse Mohl and Jennifer DiSanto defeated Boise State’s Skye Southwick and Kenna Hanses in three sets 25-27, 21-9, 15-10.
