Sand Volleyball Drops Season Opener at Grand Canyon

PHOENIX, Ariz. (3-25-2015) - Boise State opened the 2015 sand volleyball season with a 5-0 loss at Grand Canyon Wednesday night in Phoenix. Sarah Baugh and Sierra Nobley led the Broncos taking their match to three sets before falling at No. 2 pair 21-10, 11-21, 15-10.

This marked the start of the program's second season as they started a five match road trip to Phoenix for Spring Break. The Broncos moved to 0-1 on the year with the loss to GCU, while the Antelopes improved to 5-2 overall. On the day, three Broncos saw their first action in the sand for Boise State as Hannah Hubbard, Sierra Nobley and Maddi Osburn all debuted for the Blue and Orange.

The first three pairs to compete Wednesday were Laney Hayes and Taylor Murphey who lost 21-16, 21-10 at No. 5; the tandem of Aly Duffin and Katelyn Kinghorn fell 21-18, 21-13 on court three; while Kaitlyn Oliver and Maddi Osburn went down in two sets 21-17, 21-14 on court four.

Hannah Hubbard and Maddy O'Donnell saw action at No. 1 pair where they battled before falling 21-12, 21-15.

Baugh and Nobley were the last to finish on the night playing on court two.

Boise State will continue its five match road swing to Arizona Thursday night when the Broncos travel to Tempe to face the Arizona State Sun Devils at 7 p.m. (Mountain).
