Boise State Softball
2011 Signing Class
Boise State softball signed three student-athletes to National Letters of Intent for the 2013 season, head coach Erin Thorpe announced Sunday. Sarah Barnes (Onalaska, Wash.), Ashley Palmer (Scottsdale, Ariz.) and Makenna Weir (Woodinville, Wash.) are all currently high school seniors.
"We are very excited about what each of these student-athletes will bring to our team" Thorpe said. "Their versatility will continue to strengthen our team and each one of them will have a chance to contribute right away."
Barnes pitches and plays shortstop at Onalaska High School where she has led the Loggers to three WIAA 1A State Tournament appearances, including a berth in the championship game last season.
Palmer pitches and plays infield and outfield for Desert Mountain High School. She tossed a no-hitter and led her team in home runs and RBI a year ago.
Weir is an infielder at Woodinville High School. She teamed with current Bronco Katie Engelbrecht to lead the Falcons to a district title and third-place finish in the state tournament in 2011.
"We were very specific with what we were looking for in this class as they will be the first class brought in following the graduation of our first four-year senior class," Thorpe said. "We are excited to see what they will be able to do as we continue to push this program forward."
