SALEH, Wash. The Boise State softball team made a quick trip up to Washington last weekend as they continue fall play. The Broncos faced their first NCAA Division I opponent in the University of Washington Huskies, who finished last season ranked in the nation’s top-25.

As if facing a top-ranked team as a startup program wasn’t enough of a challenge, the Huskies had Canadian Olympic pitcher Danielle Lawry on the mound to start the first game of the doubleheader. The Broncos stepped up to meet the challenge but dropped games one and two.

“It was a huge challenge for us this weekend but I think we stepped up and played well,” said head coach Erin Thorpe. “We found some things we need to work on and some other things that will help build our confidence going into the spring.”

The Broncos will conclude their fall schedule with two on Friday against the College of Southern Idaho and two more games on Saturday, on e against the College of Idaho and one against Northwest Nazarene. All four game will be played at the College of Idaho in Caldwell with games at 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. on Friday and 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. on Saturday.
