BOISE, Idaho - The Boise School District and Boise State University will hold a dedication ceremony for the new Mountain Cove Softball Field this coming Wednesday, Oct. 8, at 2:00 p.m. The general public and media are invited to the ceremony that will include representatives from the Boise School District, Boise State University, and the Boise State softball team. The dedication will be held on site at 911 Mountain Cove Road and will include a ribbon cutting ceremony. Directly following the event, the Broncos will hold a formal media day and open practice session.
The complex is the result of a joint effort between the school district and the Boise State Athletics Department to renovate the site into a NCAA caliber facility that would be capable of hosting the new Bronco softball program, as well as, various events sponsored by the school district.
Under the partnership, approved by the Boise School Board on March 10, 2008, the District retains ownership of the field that is located on the campus of the old Mountain Cove High School in Boise’s north end, which closed its doors at the end of the 2007-08 school year. However, Boise State was allowed to make significant improvements to the field, bringing the facility up to NCAA specifications. Among the improvements are new dugouts, bullpens, batting cages, press box, scoreboard, sound system, and a major renovation of the playing surface
Directions to the facility from the Boise State University campus are: take Broadway Avenue north past St. Luke’s Regional Medial Center to Fort Boise Park. Then turn right onto Reserve Street heading north towards the foothills. Once you pass the park, take a left onto Mountain Cove Road. The facility is located approximately one-quarter mile up the road on the left hand side.
