BOISE, Idaho Head coach Erin Thorpe has added three more players to the roster for Boise State softball’s 2009 inaugural season. Freshmen Maghan Yurek, a 5-6 catcher/outfielder from Great Falls, Mon., and Alex Minten, a 5-4 catcher/outfielder from Sublimity, Ore., joined the team after open tryouts were held in the beginning of September. Sophomore transfer Kelly Yates was also added to the roster, but will sit out the year as a redshirt.

Both freshmen bring more offensive power to a Broncos lineup that put on a clinic in their first fall games last weekend. Yurek and Minten were each named to their respective All-State first teams three times with Yurek being named the Montana Gatorade Player of the Year in her senior year. She hit .506 her senior year and had 27 home runs in her high school career. Minten was also named Player of the Year for her conference in her senior year, hitting .529 with six homers. Both players bring an added depth behind the plate for the Broncos in addition to adding the extra pop in the lineup.

Yates will serve a redshirt year after transferring from WAC-rival Utah State in the summer.
