BOISE, Idaho – The Boise State softball team returns to Mountain Cove for its second season of competition this spring, but the Broncos are giving fans a sneak peak at the 2010 squad with an intersquad scrimmage this Wednesday, Sept. 23 at 3 p.m. The scrimmage comes only days before the Broncos head up to Washington to take on the defending national champs.

“We’re excited to get back on the field and in front of our fans,” said head coach Erin Thorpe. “We want to give our new players a game-type atmosphere before heading up to Washington to take on the national champions.”

There are more than a handful of new players this fall that are trying to make an immediate impact on the young program. The fall squad features 12 returners from the inaugural season and eight newcomers. The Broncos will once again be one of the youngest teams in the nation with all eight newcomers being freshmen.

Among the returners are All-Region selection Kathy Cox, All-WAC Tournament selection Kelly Sweeney, and 13-game winner Aubray Zell.

The scrimmage will be free to the public and is the first of two fall games at Mountain Cove. Idaho State visits on Oct. 4.

The Broncos will take on the Huskies in Selah, Wash. on Friday at 11 a.m. (PT) to kick off their intercollegiate fall competition and then take on Northern Idaho on Saturday at 10 a.m. (PT) in Coeur D’Alene.
