BOISE, Idaho - Boise State softball incoming freshman Rebekah Cervantes was honored by her hometown newspaper, the Visalia Times-Delta/Advance-Register, this week as the outlet named her its 2014-15 Girls Athlete of the Year.

During the 2014-15 athletic year, the three-sport star (girls' volleyball, girls' basketball, softball) for Redwood High School recorded 301 kills and earned West Yosemite League co-MVP honors in leading Redwood to the league's volleyball title, averaged 13.2 points per game and led the Central Section with 86 3-pointers as Redwood earned a share of the WYL girls' basketball title, and batted .500 with six home runs and 37 RBI for the softball team during the spring.

Cervantes signed a National Letter-of-Intent with Boise State in November of last year, and is already on campus participating in the summer Bridge program and working out with her new collegiate teammates. The Broncos will begin the 2016 season in February.
