BOISE, Idaho -- Boise State shortstop Rebekah Cervantes was named Mountain West Freshman of the Year, and she along with senior first baseman Teauna Hughes were named to the All-Mountain West First Team, the conference announced Tuesday.

Cervantes, a Visalia, Calif., native, is the first freshman of the year award recipient in Bronco program history as well as only the second Bronco to earn an individual postseason conference award. Tara Glover was the first, being named Mountain West Player of the Year in 2012.

She is the second Boise State freshman to be selected to an all-conference first team as well as the first to be named to the All-Mountain West First Team. Devon Bridges was named to the All-WAC First Team as a freshman in 2011.

Cervantes enjoyed a strong debut campaign, sharing the Mountain West lead with 13 home runs and ranking seventh with a .658 slugging percentage. She also led the Broncos with 36 runs scored while finishing second on the team in batting (.342), hits (50) and RBI (36) while being the only Bronco to start all 52 games in 2016.

Hughes finished her two-year Bronco tenure with a career season, leading the team with a .386 batting average that was seventh in the conference and the third-highest single-season figure in Boise State history. The Clatskanie, Ore., native also led the Broncos in hits (56), doubles (12), RBI (47), slugging (.710) and on-base percentage (.451).

Both Broncos turned up the production during Mountain West play, as Hughes batted .425 with seven homers, 25 RBI and a slugging percentage of .836, while Cervantes batted .405 with 10 home runs, 24 RBI and a slugging percentage of .878.
