Washington Named Pitcher Of The Week
May 16, 2017

BOISE, Idaho - Boise State senior Christina Washington was named the Mountain West Pitcher of the Week Tuesday for the second time this season.

Washington had previously earned the conference's top weekly pitching honor on Feb. 27.

She earned her latest recognition after going 2-0 this past weekend over Boise State's three-game sweep at New Mexico, the Broncos' first conference series sweep in three years. Coincidentally, Boise State's last conference sweep also came against the Lobos, taking place May 2-4, 2014 at Dona Larsen Park.

Washington opened the series with her fifth shutout of the season in Thursday's 8-0 victory, and followed with a six-inning outing in Saturday's finale in which she allowed just one run in Boise State's 4-1 victory. For the weekend, the Inglewood, Calif., native allowed just one run on nine hits over 13.0 innings with a strikeout, and improved to 16-9 on the season.

Washington's performance also helped the Broncos reach the 30-win mark with Saturday's victory, marking the fourth 30-win campaign in program history and the first since 2014.

Boise State (30-18) begins its first postseason in program history today in the Postseason National Invitational Softball Championship, taking on regional host Weber State (33-19-1) at 4 p.m. The Broncos are part of a four-team pod in Ogden which also features Utah State and San Diego. The winner of the regional advances to the six-team championship series from May 21-24 at a site to be determined.
