Boise State Softball Falls 5-4 to Fresno State at WAC Tournament, Plays La Tech at 7:00 p.m.
LAS CRUCES, N.M. - Boise State University's softball team lost a 5-4 heartbreaker to Fresno State in the second round of the Western Athletic Conference Tournament Thursday afternoon in Las Cruces, N.M.   The loss dropped the Broncos into the losers bracket of the double-elimination tournament where they will play Louisiana Tech at 7:00 p.m. (Mountain) tonight in a loser-out contest.

For the second game in a row Boise State found itself with a first-inning deficit and was forced to battle back. Fresno State scored three runs in the first to take control early. However, the Broncos rallied with runs in the third and fifth innings to close within 3-2 on a pair of solo homeruns by Maghan Yurek and Kathy Cox respectively.

After Fresno State extended its lead to 4-2 in the sixth inning Boise State rallied to tie the game at four all in the top of the seventh.  The rally came off the bat of Cox who blasted her second homerun of the day, a two-run shot over the left field fence.

Unfortunately, the Bulldogs rallied to score the decisive game-winning run in the bottom half of the seventh to advance in the winners bracket.

Fresno State improved to 37-17 overall and will face No. 1 Hawai'i on Friday at 1 p.m. PST in the winners bracket. Boise State drops to the consolation bracket with a 27-31 overall record.

An expanded game story will follow after the completion of the second game tonight.
