May 12, 2017

BOISE, Idaho - Boise State is one of 14 teams to qualify for the Postseason National Invitational Softball Championship, tournament organizers Triple Crown Sports announced Friday afternoon.

It will be the first postseason appearance in program history for Boise State. The Postseason NISC is scheduled to be played from May 16-24. Site hosts, game dates, and matchups will be announced this Sunday (May 14).

"The NISC is a great opportunity for our program to make its first postseason appearance," said third-year Boise State head coach Cindy Ball. "We are still focused on finishing our last conference games strong. 'Team 9' has had a tremendous season, and they deserve to continue that into the postseason. I am proud of the group and the position they put us in to earn this invitation. We are very blessed to have such tremendous support from our athletic department and administration for sending Team 9 to the first NISC. Thank you to Triple Crown Sports for this opportunity."

Boise State (28-18, 10-12 MW), with two games remaining in this weekend's Mountain West series at New Mexico, has a chance to achieve its fourth 30-win season since beginning play in 2009. The Broncos captured Thursday's opener, 8-0, in Albuquerque.

The Broncos were one of three Mountain West teams, along with Nevada and Utah State, among the first 14 qualifiers announced. Making up the rest of the initial group of teams were Cal Poly and UC Santa Barbara from the Big West, Georgia State and Louisiana-Monroe from the Sun Belt, Abilene Christian and Lamar from the Southland Conference, as well as Campbell (Big South), UNC Wilmington (CAA), Iona (MAAC), Murray State (OVC) and Pacific (WCC). More qualified teams will be announced as conference tournament and games conclude this weekend.
